چکیده

Evolution of Stars of masses 60Me, 20Me and 12Me is computed mainly for a limiting case where neutrino loss due to the universal Fermi interaction is completely neglected. Convective envelope penetrates deeply into the highly evolved core, but the depth of penetration is found to depend on the stellar mass and the efficiency of convective energy transport_ When the mixing proceeds quickly, the core mass is reduced finally below the Chandrasekhar limit and electrons become degenerate. When the mixing is relatively slow, on the other hand, decomposition of iron takes place in the core. When the degenerate core is formed, hydrogen is depleted uniformly in the envelope and the lifetime of this phase is much longer than one in the helium-burning phase. Moreover, in the bulk of that lifetime, the star remains to be a red supergiant, which is a peculiar star in its chemical composition. Thus both observed number ratio of blue to red supergiants and relative paucity of peculiar red supergiants support the existence of the neutrino loss, under the condition that the mixing length of convection is not appreciably smaller than unit scale height of pressure in the convective envelope. When the, neutrino loss is included, on the other hand, only a star as massive as 60Me may become a peculiar star as a result of the deep convective mixing, while the star of mass smaller than 30Me does not. Discussion concerning an origin of highly luminous peculiar stars .is also given.

Perspectives of Core-collapse Supernovae beyond Sn 1987a

The observation of neutrinos from Supernova 1987A has confirmed the theoretical conjecture that these particles play a crucial role during the collapse of the core of a massive star. Only one per cent of the energy they carry away from the newly formed neutron star may account for all the kinetic and electromagnetic energy responsible for the spectacular display of the supernova explosion. Howe...

Asymptotic representation of nonradial g+-modes in stars with a convective core

The asymptotic representation of linear, isentropic, low-frequency g+-modes in spherically symmetric stars developedbySmeyers et al. (1995) is extended tomore realistic stellar models composed of a convective core in adiabatic equilibrium and a radiative envelope. Bymeans of a boundary-layermethod, it is taken into account that the transition from the convective core to the radiative envelope i...

Low mass AGB stellar models for 0 . 003 ≤ Z ≤ 0 . 02 : basic formulae for nucleosynthesis calculations

We have extended our published set of low mass AGB stellar models to lower metallicity. Different mass loss rates have been explored. Interpolation formulae for luminosity, effective temperature, core mass, mass of dredge up material and maximum temperature in the convective zone generated by thermal pulses are provided. Finally, we discuss the modifications of these quantities as obtained when...

THE EFFECT OF COSMIONS ON THE STABILITY OF MAIN SEQUENCE STELLAR CORES

We have studied the effect of hypothetical Cosmions on the core stability of main sequence stars (of populations I and II). Cosmions, with a mass of 4-10 Gev/c2 and a scattering cross section with nucleons of approximately 10-36 cm2 could prevail in transporting heat in the stellar cores. Raby [17] showed the existence of a local thermal instability caused by the presence of Cosmions in the sol...

Multi-dimensional hydrodynamic simulations of the post-bounce evolution of collapsed stellar iron cores have demonstrated that convective overturn between the stalled shock and the neutrinosphere can have an important effect on the neutrino-driven explosion mechanism. Whether a model yields a successful explosion or not, however, still depends on the power of neutrino energy deposition behind t...
